“5G Broadcasting” represents one of the most promising frontiers for audiovisual distribution — enabling simultaneous transmissions to an unlimited number of users, with consistent quality, no mobile data consumption, and no SIM requirement. Through the 5G Audiovisual Broadcast Broadband Network project, Rai Way has already successfully tested a variety of use cases — from distributed TV production to virtual reality cultural events, and content reception on the move.

The “Infrastructures and New Services” area includes vertical projects such as the use of drones in BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line Of Sight) mode and integration with IoT networks. These initiatives open up new application scenarios — from environmental monitoring to natural risk prevention — through the real-time collection of data and its processing via AI and deep learning algorithms.

The new frontier of digital terrestrial television brings TV to smartphones and mobile devices, leveraging existing networks to deliver content anywhere, with broadcast quality and reliability. In this area, we are experimenting with DVB-T2 Lite transmissions.
