- Distributed TV production over a Private 5G Network, with ultra-low latency A/V signal exchange and live transmission within the Fucine space.
- Private 5G Network deployed across three locations (Fucine, Duomo, Binario 3) with remote direction from RAI/CRITS headquarters in Via Cavalli, Turin.
- Immersive artistic performances: VR Art on a virtual canvas within the Metaverse.
- Live transmission via 5G Broadcast.
- Local Edge CDN for live content distribution over a dedicated broadband channel to mobile devices.
- Live consumption, on mobile devices and in virtual environments with headsets.
From the stage to the Metaverse: the immersive 5G jazz experience
At the Turin Jazz Festival 2023, the Officine Grandi Riparazioni (OGR) hosted “5G Jazz Jam Session”, an experimental event that combined music, dance, and visual arts through the capabilities of the 5G Audiovisual Broadcast Broadband Network project.
The musicians of the Gianpaolo Petrini Big Band, performing in three separate areas of the OGR and connected via a private multistage 5G network, delivered a synchronised jazz improvisation with a latency of just 10 milliseconds. The performance was enriched by immersive VR and AR experiences, pre-recorded VR360 POV content, a live VR Art performance, and a dance show by the Fondazione Egri per la Danza, all set within spaces featuring sculptures by Osvaldo Moi — and recreated for live viewing in the Metaverse.
From a technological perspective, this use case demonstrated the synergy between 5G Broadcast and broadband CDN networks, through a transparent “seamless” switching system and optimised audio/video encoding to minimise latency. The result was a tangible demonstration of how 5G technology can enable new possibilities for live audiovisual production and distribution in large-scale, high-audience events.
