Live Theater VR360

From stage to virtual reality: ballet over 5G

The experimentation of 5G Broadcast technologies came to life in Palermo with “Live Theater VR360”, the first use case of the 5G Audiovisual Broadcast Broadband Network project. The initiative involved Teatro Massimo and the Convitto Nazionale Giovanni Falcone, two local centers of excellence in culture and education.

Thanks to high connection speeds and low latency, 5G Broadcast enabled the creation and enjoyment of cultural and artistic content in an immediate, engaging way, reaching a wide and diverse audience simultaneously.

In the evocative setting of Teatro Massimo, VR360 footage of the ballet Le Corsaire was produced, integrated with pre-recorded segments using the Impersive POV technique inside the theatre and at several historic sites in Palermo. The live images were distributed over 5G Broadcast across the city area and viewed via headsets both at Teatro Massimo and by students at the Convitto.

An immersive experience that brought together technology and artistic storytelling, demonstrating how collaboration between businesses, institutions and the community can open new horizons for culture, art and education through immersive technologies.
