Colocation

Rai Way’s offering is designed to host enterprise hardware in certified, high-performance environments distributed across Italy.

Colocation: what it is

The Colocation service allows companies to place their servers inside Rai Way’s Edge Data Centers: secure, professional spaces built to the highest international standards. Here, we guarantee operational continuity, maximum power and cooling availability, and direct, autonomous access to your equipment.

Rai Way provides flexible and scalable configurations to meet any requirement, from a single rack to customized cage solutions. The infrastructure is fully carrier-neutral and connected to the main national Internet Service Providers.

Service features

All Data Centers are designed to support data management entirely within national and regional borders, reducing risks related to security and energy efficiency.

Flexible configurations
  • Spaces starting from ½ rack, with customizable power up to 10 kW per rack and, upon request, tailor-made configurations
  • Dedicated cage solutions within shared environments, with hot/cold aisle containment and autonomous access
Availability and continuity
  • UPS configuration: 2N and GE: N+1
  • DX cooling technology, N+1 in Data Hall, and 2N in technical rooms
  • Systems designed to ensure high reliability and constant uptime
Physical and logistical security
  • Active video surveillance, access logs, and environmental monitoring
  • Autonomous access with a dedicated badge for each rack
  • Data centers located in earthquake-resistant buildings (max load 1,000 kg/sqm) provide maximum protection for hosted hardware.

The advantages of Rai Way Colocation
Carrier neutrality

Complete freedom in choosing carriers and connectivity with the country’s major Internet Service Providers.

Data sovereignty

All data is managed and stored in Italy, ensuring full control over data location and compliance with the requirements imposed on strategic digital infrastructure operators.

Energy efficiency and sustainability
  • Modular solutions to achieve high efficiency even with partial occupancy
  • 100% renewable energy
  • Free cooling and water-free cooling systems
  • Redevelopment of existing buildings at Rai Way transmission sites for 4 of the edge data centers
Reduced latency

Data processing is close to the end user thanks to the geographic distribution of the DCs.

Scalability and reliability

Easy expansion of hardware resources in environments designed for maximum continuity and modular growth.

Services enabled by the Edge network

Thanks to its proprietary fiber-optic network and interconnection with the main national Internet Service Providers, Rai Way’s Data Center infrastructure enables a wide range of advanced services:

  • Hybrid Cloud: infrastructures that balance public and private cloud depending on the nature of data and applications
  • Disaster Recovery: business continuity thanks to multi-site configurations in the event of disasters or major incidents
  • Edge Computing and Internet of Things: efficiency and minimal latency for proximity-based applications
  • Data Center Exit Strategy: for clients looking to migrate away from obsolete infrastructures
  • Public and private peering with national operators
  • Operational reliability: high availability, reduced latency, NOC and customer care dedicated in Italy

Use cases

Rai Way’s distributed Data Center infrastructure is designed to support applications that require low latency, high availability, and proximity of IT resources to where data is generated, analyzed, and used.

This hybrid and interconnected architecture effectively meets the needs of industries and technologies where processing speed and intelligent data localization are critical success factors.

Main application areas include:

  • Edge Cloud: scalable execution of distributed workloads
  • Internet of Things (IoT): where physical proximity to devices and sensors is essential
  • AR/VR, CDN, and advanced content delivery environments
  • Cloud Gaming: immersive, latency-free experiences
  • Computer Vision and decentralized artificial intelligence applications

Our Data Center network

Rai Way has deployed a widespread network of Edge Data Centers, strategically located across Italy, to guarantee proximity, reduced latency, and geographic resilience. Each facility is designed to maximize efficiency, reliability, and resilience, with earthquake-resistant buildings capable of supporting loads up to 1,000 kg/sqm.

Active Edge Data Centers

  • Turin – Eremo: 280 kW IT | 42 racks | 118 sqm Data Center Hall
  • Milan – Siziano: 450 kW IT | 88 racks | 2 Data Center Halls, each 230 sqm
  • Venice – Campalto: 210 kW IT | 35 racks | 120 sqm Data Center Hall
  • Genoa – Granarolo: 210 kW IT | 36 racks | 100 sqm Data Center Hall
  • Florence – Terrarossa: 450 kW IT | 61 racks | 200 sqm Data Center Hall

All centers are interconnected through a proprietary backbone and ensure carrier neutrality with direct access to the main national IXs.
