RAI WAY STARTS THE TRAIL OF T-DMB DIGITAL RADIO
Rome – Rai Way has started a trial for broadcasting T- DMB digital radio signals, from some transmitters in Italy.
This venture, according to the commitments toward the innovation and the technological development of the RAI Group in the scope of the Service Agreement signed with the Minister of Communication, has the main objective to test the potential opportunities coming from the adoption of this standard in term of usability for the final users that will be able to receive audio, video and data signals with low cost portable devices.
Satisfaction has show in the company for the T-DMB trial, that is a Korean standard recently adopted also by ETSI, is confirmed by the Rai Way’s CEO, Stefano Ciccotti, who says: “it could represent, for its efficiency, a technological solution for the old problem of the overcrowded spectrum of FM frequencies. The Korean users – says Ciccotti- are now 2.6 milions and in Europe a commercial service is already offered in Germany while in other countries many trials have been launched”.
For the moment, six months trial are planned to test both technical characteristics and market appeal for the T-DMB standard in Italy also wishing that could be the opportunity to share networks between different operators to extend the coverage.
