Know-how and Infrastructures for your Network Development

Over 2.300 sites in Italy

Rai Way's broadcasting networks are articulated around 2.300 terrestrial and satellite stations, each of which accommodates several radio-electric systems and, in some cases, also transmission systems, in addition to a set of infrastructures supporting the installations.

Stations tipologies

Stations can be classified according to the equipment and services provided and to the relative typology of supporting infrastructures:

Principal broadcasting and transmission centre

It hosts the broadcasting and transmission systems required to cover a multitude of services. From the point of view of infrastructures, this centre comprises a parcel of land containing buildings and one or more large-size metal towers. The building contains:

  • Service broadcasting equipment
  • Broadcasting equipment
  • The power-supply system with relative generators

The metal towers are used to support the broadcasting and transmission antennas.

Transmission centre

The transmission centre includes a site containing a masonry building and a single medium-size metal tower. Inside the building it is possible to find:

  • Transmission equipment
  • The power-supply system with relative generators

The metal tower is used to support transmission antennas.

Repeater station

The repeater station hosting a small/medium capacity repeater comprises a masonry building or container and a metal tower or a small/medium size free-standing pole.
The building contains:

  • The equipment required for broadcasting services
  • The power-supply system

The tower/pole supports receiver and broadcasting antennas.

Building units

In most cases, transmitter and repeater stations stand on company-owned land while in a minority of cases on land that is either rented or under a blanket easement.

As regards the building units used to host repeaters, the most frequently used type is the prefabricated box: the prevailing choice is for standard modular units allowing for subsequent extensions in the case of need for more space to accommodate new equipment.
