The environment is a precious resource which Rai Way has committed to protecting, and its activities are always carried out with this in mind. Corporate objectives, in line with the Environmental Policy, strategies and the Group's Code of Ethics, focus on respecting current regulations and internal procedures on environmental protection.
Rai Way carries out its activities with rules appropriate to maintaining channels of communication with stakeholders to better understand management of environmental aspects.
In 2008, the company adopted an Environmental Management System certified under ISO 14001:2004. This favoured and supported identification and evaluation of the environmental impacts that derive from operating activities. For every identified environmental impact, the importance is assessed, by analysing the various relevant factors and, when necessary, consequent actions to mitigate the effects.
- Energy consumption and energy efficiency
- Waste management
- External noise pollution
- Ozone-depleting gases
- Non-ionizing radiation (NIR)
Process control and certifications
In order to maintain control of its emissions to protect the public and its workers, Rai Way has established two processes which involve the implementation of an Integrated Management System in the context of environmental certifications ISO 14001 for the general population, and OHSAS 18001 for the workplace. These systems define corporate responsibilities, procedures to manage problems at the company level, identifying the roles of each organisational unit, and provide for continuing monitoring of significant aspects.
Other environmental initiatives
For lower-power structures, research is being done on stand-alone hybrid wind/photovoltaic energy production systems.
Also in regards to photovoltaic power, Rai Way was one of the first operators in Italy to create a ground-based photovoltaic system, through the first "Energy Account" established in the country.
